Second Person Arrested in Bad Check Scheme
Concord Police: Matthew Tierney tried to cash check at People's United Bank on Loudon Road.
It took two months, but a second man allegedly involved in a scheme to cash bad checks in Concord last year has been arrested and is facing a felony charge.
Matthew Leonard Tierney, 29, a homeless man now located in Manchester, was arrested at 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 3, on an issuing bad checks charge, a felony.

According to a Concord arrest report, Tierney is alleged to have tried to cash a check at People’s United Bank on Loudon Road at 1:50 p.m. on Nov. 22, 2013. The victim in the case was Northeast Air in Portland, Maine, involving a check valued at $2,822.65.
An officer was called to Manchester after police there arrested Tierney on a warrant. He was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and had a court date on Feb. 3.

Previously, Matthew D. B. Coppola of Manchester, was arrested and charged two counts of issuing bad checks, both felonies, and a single receiving stolen property charge on the same day a couple of hours before, after allegedly trying to cash a check at the TD Bank on Sheep Davis Road and the People’s United Bank.
A bank manager at People’s and Coppola both alleged that Tierney was involved in trying to illegally cash the check at that bank, according to police and court reports.
