UPDATE: Sexual Assaulter Back in Prison

Cameron Austin Neil allegedly failed to return at 7:30 p.m. on May 22; was put on escape status at 9:30 p.m. but is back at the prison now.

A sex offender and convicted assault prison is now back in custody, according to corrections officials.

Cameron Austin Neil, 37, of Concord, had reportedly not returned from his job and was put on escape status last night.

Jeffrey Lyons, the public information officer for the corrections department, sent out an alert at 8:55 a.m. on May 23, to report that at 3:13 a.m. this morning, Neil was returned to the prison.

“No further details available other than he is now in custody,” Lyons noted.

The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announced on May 22, that a minimum-security inmate is missing from the North End Transitional Housing Unit in Concord, according to an alert.

Cameron Austin Neil, 37, of Concord, left the facility to go to work at 7:30 a.m. on May 22, 2015, but allegedly failed to return at his scheduled time of 7:30 p.m. According to Jeffrey Lyons, the public information officer for the corrections department, he was placed on escape status at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Neil is white, 5-feet, 3-inches tall, and weighs around 145 lbs. He has multiple tattoos on his legs, arms, calf, abdomen, face, back, and chest, according to officials.

Neil, a registered sex offender, was convicted in Merrimack County Superior Court to five to 15 years on two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault on a victim under 13. He was admitted to prison in 2005 and was eligible for parole in January 2010. He also has an extensive criminal history including simple assault, criminal threatening, theft, reckless conduct, resisting, and breach of bail.

“To date he had not been approved for parole,” according to Lyons. “His maximum release date is January 27, 2020. He has been at the North End Transitional Housing Unit since March 31, 2015.”

The New Hampshire Department of Corrections Investigations Bureau and the New Hampshire State Police are investigating. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call their local law enforcement agency or the New Hampshire State Prison for Men at 603-271-1801.
