The parcel, 282-284 N. State St., is the former location of a duplex destroyed due to arson in December 2005. Robert McMillan, 84, the owner of the building, died of complications from injuries he received during the fire, after firefighters pulled him to safety and took him to the hospital.
The death of McMillan was a cold case for many years.
Richard Ellison was later found guilty of second-degree murder in July 2022, during a second trial. The first trial was declared a mistrial after a jury was deadlocked.
According to press reports, McMillan had a live-in caretaker who lived in one of the duplex’s units. Eillson and his girlfriend, Robin Theriault, lived with the caretaker but were asked to move out. Eillson set the building on fire months later.
Theriault, a trial witness, later died of complications due to coronavirus in October 2021.
According to the city’s assessor database, the property was sold in April.
