Snow Clean Up Running Smoothly

Heavy, overnight snow in Concord put crews behind schedule but officials say they'll be catching up soon.

Concord has been slammed with more than 20 inches of snow as of 7 a.m. on Feb. 9, from the Nemo Blizzard of 2013, in what is thought to be the third largest snowfall in the history of the city, so far.

Jim Major, the highway and utilities superintendent of the General Services Department said things were going “not too bad,” so far.

“The rates of snow at 2-inches-plus per hour have put us behind,” Major said in an email, “but there aren’t a lot of people on the road yet, so we are continuing and will continue to plug along. Once the snow stops we will catch up.”

Major said there were no major equipment failures, which he called “a good thing.” A snowplow was involved in a minor accident yesterday when a car turned a corner and slid into a truck but there was no damage to the equipment, according to Major. The car also had minor damage.

The city has issued a parking ban for midnight tonight (Feb. 10) through 7 a.m. The garages are free through 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11.

Major said there would probably be another three inches of snow falling through the afternoon and if people adhere to the parking ban, “we hope to have it cleaned up by tomorrow morning.”
