Space Heater Caused Liberty Street Fire: Concord Fire Marshal

Concord Fire Chief: Residents should remember to use approved space heaters and keep them away from flammable materials.

CONCORD, NH — The cause of a fire that seriously damaged a home on Liberty Street on Tuesday has been deemed accidental by Concord’s fire marshal, according to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus. The determined cause of the fire at 109-111 Liberty St. was a space heater that was too close to combustibles. The two-family building will require “extensive repairs” before it is habitable again, he noted.

“The fire marshal reminds residents that space heaters should be approved by a testing laboratory and should be used in areas where a three-foot clearance can be maintained from flammable materials and in a location where it will not be subject to being knocked over or otherwise damaged,” he added in a press statement on Jan. 18, 2018.

Three cats were killed in the fire that went to two-alarms. One occupant was treated at the scene but no other injuries were reported.
