MacDonald reportedly claimed to be the driver, at first, but police saw that the seats of the car were set up in such a way that the driver was right up against the steering wheel while the passenger seat was pushed back. MacDonald allegedly later admitted to not being the driver.
As a result of the crash and subsequent investigation, Desiree M. Charter, 28, of Manor Road in Concord, was arrested and charged.
Witnesses reported that while driving north on Mountain Road, a driver in a Ford Econoline van motioned to have the Corolla pass it. While attempting to pass the van, “the van swerved and attempted to run the vehicle off the road.” The vehicle then swerved, went off the roadway, struck a rock wall, and just missed taking out a utility pole.
The accident into the rock wall deployed the airbags in the car.
The van kept traveling north, according to a witness, who caught up with the van and motioned the operator, later identified as Hall, to turn around. Hall reportedly turned around and returned to the scene.
Later on that afternoon, MacDonald was arrested and charged after police interviewed him as well as other witnesses who reported that Charter was actually the driver of the vehicle, not MacDonald.
After interviewing more witnesses and investigating the incident, a warrant was issued against Hall for allegedly placing others in danger with his van, including a juvenile who was a passenger in the vehicle.
