Warning: Stay Off The Ice

Concord officials are warning people to stay off the ice -- which is so thin that a dog and its owner fell through it at White Park Pond on Wednesday.

Parks and Recreation employee Tom Wright pulled the young man to safety after witnessing the incident while driving by the pond in his pickup truck, Parks and Recreation Director David Gill said Friday in a press release.

The young man had broken through the ice and rescued his dog, which fell into the pond about 30 feet from shore, ”but could not get himself back on the ice to get out,” Gill said.

“He tried breaking the ice to clear a path to shore but was unsuccessful,” Gill said.

Wright saw the incident, ”rushed out into the pond (breaking the ice as he went) and pulled the young man to safety,” Gill said.

The ice skating areas at both the pond and Beaver Meadow Golf Course remain closed due to the thin ice, caused by the recent warm temperatures, Gill said.
