Cold-Water Dangers In NH

New Hampshire State Police-Marine Patrol warned the public Wednesday about cold-water immersion dangers for boaters and swimmers in the spring and early summer.

Lake, pond, and river temperatures “remain dangerously cold” during the early months. Even on a sunny day, officials said, “shock, hypothermia, and drowning” can occur in minutes. Water temperatures will remain below 60 degrees “well into June.”

While boating in the Granite State, Marine Patrol reminds boaters to always wear a lifejacket, check water temperatures before boating, dress appropriately — wear layers or a wetsuit or dry suit during the early season, file a float plan, and have communication devices charged and in a waterproof case.
