The National Weather Service has updated its snow forecast. Expect between 8 to 17 inches of heavy snow, strong winds, bitterly cold air.
GRAY, ME — A major coastal storm is heading into New Hampshire tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters at the NWS issued an updated alert – a “winter storm warning” – at just before 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2018, for most of the state. The Seacoast region is under a “blizzard warning.”
Previously, the NWS had predicted as much as 6 inches of snow. Now, they are saying accumulations will be in the 7 to 10 inch range with up to 14 inches in some areas of the state.
“Low pressure developing east of the Carolinas this evening will rapidly intensify as it moves up the eastern seaboard to a position off the New England coast on Thursday and into the Canadian Maritimes Thursday night,” according to the alert. “This storm is forecast to bring heavy snow and strong winds...especially to coastal sections of western Maine and New Hampshire where blizzard conditions are expected.”
