BARNSTEAD, NH — A Queen City woman was arrested Saturday in Barnstead after being accused of driving into a dog and leaving the scene of an accident. Marixa Lemus Hernandez, 36, of Central Street in Manchester, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report hitting a dog with her car. She was processed and released, and is due in Laconia District Court Nov. 7.

Police asked for the public's help in the case after the driver of a Subaru Outback was accused of striking the dog on Route 28 Wednesday. The dog died.

The department posted car parts found at the scene on Facebook and gave a description of the vehicle. About 24 hours later, an officer reportedly saw the suspect's vehicle north on Route 28 around the same time the crash occurred. This led to the officer gathering more evidence about the case and putting together a warrant.
