Womenade of Concord Polar Plunge Raises $7,500

Money will be used for short-term financial assistance for those in need.

A local nonprofit organization held its first polar plunge and raised thousands of dollars to help those in need in the Concord community.

The Womenade of Concord 1st Annual Polar Plunge raised about $7,500, according to organizers. Participants collected money from others who wanted to see them jump in a freezing cold pool of water.

About $4,000 was raised online before the event and another $1,000 was collected during the event. However, organizers later updated the total amount raised to more than $7,500, when all of the donations were tallied, according to a post on Facebook.

The pool, donated by The Stove Barn, was set up in the Courtyard by Marriott parking lot. For about an hour, plungers jumped into the water in front of their friends and family. Other supporters of the event include Cimo’s South End Deli, Texas Roadhouse, the Concord Fire Department, The Wine’ing Butcher Pembroke, and John Irish Sound Technician.

The money will be used for short-term financial assistance for those in need in and around the capital region.
