Aylward: Wow! What A Day In Danbury ...

The People have spoken!

With a relatively good turnout for a municipal election:

• Congratulations to James Farmer, Selectman-elect who had sweeping support from the Legislative Body in Danbury, and;

• Congratulations also go to taxpayers who defeated Article 4 ($3M bond) by an overwhelming majority!

Future projects requiring a bond must be thoroughly studied, including the current and future economic impact on taxpayers. I believe the town’s people sent such a message to the governing body on March 12th regarding Article 4.

In the future, it may be prudent to first present citizens with various budgets (beginning with zero dollars) and associated increases in tax rates and take a vote of the Legislative Body to determine affordability -- before investing taxpayer funds to proceed with further study, that may not be warranted depending upon voters' response.
