Wright Arraigned on Resisting Arrest, Obstruction Charges

Concord Police allege man "became agitated and uncooperative" during domestic disturbance investigation.

A Concord man, with a couple of arrests already from last year, was arrested again over the weekend on a couple of charges related to a domestic incident on Garvins Falls Road.

Derek S. Wright, 24, of Concord, was arrested at 12:58 a.m. on Jan. 5, and charged with resisting arrest or detention and obstructing government administration.

According to a Concord Police arrest report, officers were called to Garvins Falls Road for a domestic disturbance. Dispatch reported that a man and woman were allegedly seen arguing outside of their apartment, in front of a Dodge Caliber.

Upon arrival, the officers reported seeing a woman in the driver seat of the vehicle. One of the officers attempted to make contact with her and she allegedly told them to go away until she realized that they were police officers.

While talking with the woman, Wright allegedly walked out of the building and headed to the car.

“I could clearly smell the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the male subject despite the fact that we were outside,” the officer wrote, adding that his eyes were “glassy, watery, and bloodshot.”

The officers tried to communicate with Wright but he allegedly refused to answer questions about what was going on while continuing to attempt to reach the vehicle. He later allegedly turned around and headed back towards the apartment building.

The woman inside the vehicle reportedly began to talk to the other officer and Wright then allegedly turned around and walked back towards the vehicle, allegedly ignoring police commands to stay away from the vehicle.

Wright allegedly told the woman to not tell the police anything and tried to get between the officer and the car.

When Wright turned again to go back to the apartment, he was told he would be placed into custody and charged.

Wright allegedly struggled to get away from police but was later subdued, all the while allegedly screaming that the police were assaulting him and his rights were being violated, according to officers.

As a result of being cuffed by officers, Wright alleged that he was injured and demanded medical attention and Concord Fire and Rescue teams were called in to look at him. They later left the scene reporting no injuries on Wright.

Wright was held on $1,000 cash bail and since he was on probation, a 72-hour hold was placed on his release. Wright allegedly “became agitated and uncooperative” during booking and alleged an injured wrist during the process. He was transported to Merrimack County House of Corrections and was arraigned on Jan. 7.
