Drunk Driver Went Wrong Way For 15 Miles: NHSP

Carley Tate was arrested after police she she drove the wrong way on Interstates 93 and 293 from Manchester to Bow.

CONCORD, NH — A New Hampshire woman was arrested Monday morning after police said she drove intoxicated while traveling the wrong way on the highway for 15 miles. Carley Tate, 24, of Center Barnstead, was arrested on May 5, 2019, on driving while intoxicated and reckless conduct charges. At about 3 a.m., State Police from Troop B in Bedford began receiving reports that Tate was traveling north in the southbound lane of I-293, according to Sgt. Jacob Woods.

"State police dispatchers fielded multiple emergency calls from witnesses who were nearly struck by this vehicle," he noted. "The vehicle continued traveling northbound on the wrong side of the highway and eventually entered Interstate 93 and traveled through Hooksett and into Bow."

The vehicle — a 2014 Volkswagen Passat — had traveled about 15 miles when troopers located it and deployed spike strips in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The strips deflated two of the vehicle’s tires, which slowed Tate to a stop in Bow, Woods noted.
