HAMPTON, NH — A man from Durham, accused of screaming murderous threats on Winnacunnet Road, had to be Tased in order to be brought under control on Tuesday, police said in a report.

Officers were sent to the road around 10:20 p.m. after a call about a man yelling “I’m going to kill you,” and “I’m going to murder you.” The screaming, the caller said, was followed by what sounded like “two loud pops.” Officers arrived and saw a man leaving the area. The man was later identified as Joshua Blake, 31, of Durham, according to Deputy Chief Alex Reno of the Hampton Police Department.

“When officers attempted to make contact with Blake, he began running from the scene,” Reno said. “Officers searched the area and found Blake near the intersection of Winnicunnet Road and Viking Drive. Officers determined that Blake was highly intoxicated, disheveled, and covered in sand.”

Blake was taken into protective custody, due to his alleged intoxication, and was accused of being uncooperative.

“As officers attempted to take Blake into custody, he began tensing up and attempted to push off and pull away from the officers,” Reno said. “Blake continued to physically resist with officers and grabbed onto one of the officer’s shirt collars.”

Officers Tased Blake and accused him of continuing to resist arrest. During the struggle, one officer was injured in the hand and had a torn uniform. But they were able to eventually get him into handcuffs, Reno said.

Blake, it turned out, had an active warrant out of Maine on four assault counts.

The officers accused Blake of being “combative and unruly” in the cruiser so they took him straight to the county jail. He was charged with fugitive from justice, simple assault, resisting arrest or detention, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and loitering. Blake was arraigned in Hampton District Court on Feb. 16 and has a follow-up court date on March 8.

Officers also searched the area but were unable to find a firearm or evidence of shots being fired, Reno said.
