STRATHAM, NH — A Bay State teen was taken to the hospital early Monday morning after a crash on Route 101 and a two-state chase by troopers in Maine and New Hampshire.

Around 12:30 a.m., a trooper clocked the driver of a 2014 Chrysler 300 at 118 mph on Interstate 95 in Greenland. The trooper attempted to stop the car, but the driver was accused of failing to stop, and a chase ensued.

The driver, identified later as Jason A. Schalebaum, 18, of Stoneham, MA, drove onto Route 101 at the Hampton toll plaza and continued west, according to state police.

Schalebaum was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. After being cleared, he was taken to the Rockingham County Jail. In New Hampshire, Schalebaum was charged with “multiple counts” of felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, state police said, as well as aggravated driving under the influence, disobeying an officer, conduct after an accident, and possession of controlled drugs charges.

“During the investigation, Troopers learned Schalebaum failed to stop for the Maine State Police about five minutes before he was encountered in New Hampshire,” state police said. “Additional charges are pending against Schalebaum in Maine.”

State police were assisted by police officers from Exeter, Hampton, and Stratham and Exeter and Stratham fire and rescue teams.
