Teens Injured in Route 101 Crash
NHSP: "Driver inattention" appears to be a contributing factor two two-vehicle crash in Hampton today that had traffic backed up for miles.
HAMPTON, NH – New Hampshire State Police are investigating the cause of a motor vehicle crash on Route 101 this morning in Hampton that sent two teenagers to the hospital, injured two others, and slowed beach traffic for hours.
At just before noon on June 19, 2016, troopers were sent to the eastbound side of Route 101 in Hampton at Exit 13. According to the preliminary investigation, a 23-year-old man from Central Square, NY, driving a Jeep, reportedly collided with a Chrysler Avenger, being driven by a 22-year-old Rochester man, as the traffic slowed heading toward Hampton Beach.

The Chrysler contained four passengers. Two of the passengers – a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl – sustained serious injuries while two others received minor injuries, according to state police. The boy was seated in the left rear seat and sustained a serious head injury. He was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and then medflighted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, according to the report. The girl – who was sitting in the right rear seat – had back and neck injuries, was sent to Portsmouth where she is being treated.
“Driver inattention on the part of (the driver of the Jeep) appears to be a possible contributing factor in this accident,” according to Sgt. Keith Walker of the NHSP. “However, all aspects are being investigated. Traffic was diverted off of Exit #13 for approximately two hours as troopers conducted their investigation.”

Assisting at the scene were Hampton Police, Hampton Fire, North Hampton Fire and the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit.
