The North Hampton Select Board is very pleased to announce that Rye Police Chief Kevin Walsh will be serving in the capacity of Interim Police Chief for our community while an in-depth search is completed to identify the right candidate to lead our department into the future. Chief Walsh brings with him over 30 years of leadership and law enforcement experience, and we would like to thank Chief Walsh and the Town of Rye for their assistance in stepping in to collaborate with North Hampton and work with our officers to continue to provide high quality law enforcement to the residents of our community. Chief Walsh will be working with Chief LaBarge to create a smooth transition in the department and will officially start as Interim Chief on Jan. 17, 2025.

On a sadder note, though we have anticipated this for quite some time, the Board is saddened to announce the resignation of Chief Jason Lajoie of the North Hampton Fire Department, effective Jan. 31, 2025.

Chief Lajoie has served the community for over two decades, most recently as Fire Chief since 2020. We greatly appreciate his many years of service in this 24/7 position and wish him well in spending well deserved time with his family in the years to come. To his credit, one of Chief Lajoie’s great successes is having one of the only fully staffed fire departments in the area, and we fully expect the high-quality service the department provides to continue unabated. The Board will be working with leadership in the department to determine next steps and the appropriate direction in filling this position in the future, and we will keep the community apprised of our progress.

We would like to express again our thanks to Chiefs LaBarge and Lajoie and express our gratitude to all the town employees in every department who contribute every day to making North Hampton a strong and safe community.

We wish the entire North Hampton community the very best in the New Year.

Sincerely,

James Sununu
