WATCH: Smuttynose Founder Endorses #50BY30 Energy Effort

In Hampton, Peter Egelston, says climate change discussion shouldn't be about politics. "It's the right thing to do."

Today, NextGen Climate New Hampshire released a new video featuring Smuttynose Brewing Company owner Peter Egelston discussing how clean energy has benefitted his brewery - and why he believes our nation must achieve more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030.

“When we designed and built our new facility, energy efficiency was high on the list of things that we wanted to achieve,” Egelston stated in the video. “If you spend less money on your energy use, you lower your costs—but it’s also doing it because it’s the right thing to do. I’d like to think that the politics can be checked at the door and the focus can be on policy.”

In 2014 Smuttynose opened a new state-of-the-art, eco-centric brewery in Hampton with energy efficient lighting, strategic window orientation, substantial insulation and roof-mounted solar tubes. The new site is expected to save the company a total of $2.3 million dollars - savings that Smuttynose can now put towards continuing its growth and expansion.

The transition to clean energy is good for businesses, like Smuttynose, and is good for American families, because it will lower their energy bills and put more money in their pockets. In fact, a new report released last week from NextGen Climate America shows that clean energy could help cut $5.3 billion in residential energy bill savings in 2030 and $41 billion in savings by 2050. The report finds that accelerating the transition to a clean energy economy will create over a million jobs by 2030 and up to two million jobs by 2050 and increase household disposable incomes by $350-$400 in 2030 and by as much as $650 in 2050.

NextGen Climate is focused on brining climate change to the forefront of American Politics, according to a statement. Founded by businessperson and philanthropist Tom Styer in 2013, NextGen Climate acts politically to prevent climate disaster and promote prosperity for all Americans.
