Weather forecast:
1. Local pediatrician explains allergy symptoms, treatments for children (wmur.com) — A Merrimack pediatrician with Southern New Hampshire Health is warning local families that spring allergies are hitting kids hard, with stuffy noses, congestion, and poor sleep common right now. She suggests simple home steps like showering after outdoor play and keeping windows closed, plus age-appropriate medicines, and urges parents to see a specialist if symptoms disrupt daily life.
2. Maine Trucker Arrested On Drug, DUI Charges After I-89 Crash: New Hampshire State Police Roundup (patch.com) — Recent New Hampshire State Police logs include several incidents tied to Merrimack, including an arrest in town on a criminal threatening with a deadly weapon charge and another case listing a Merrimack resident in a Bedford stop. The roundup also details a serious I-89 crash in Bow involving an allegedly impaired truck driver and numerous DUI, reckless driving, and drug-related arrests across the region.
3. World War I shipwreck adds to NH family's legacy (unionleader.com) — A New Hampshire family with ties to a Merrimack Fire and Rescue lieutenant is celebrating the discovery of the World War I cutter Tampa, where their ancestor Fred Wesley Wyman was killed in 1918. The long-lost wreck was recently located off the U.K. coast, deepening the family’s connection to his service and highlighting generations of public safety work in New Hampshire.
4. $12M in OT for Department of Corrections Approved By Council (indepthnh.org) — State officials recently confirmed that federal interest in building an ICE detention facility in Merrimack has been dropped, after an Attorney General’s review of how related public-records requests were handled. That update came during a wide-ranging Executive Council meeting that also approved $12 million in overtime for Corrections, advanced broadband expansion, funded new affordable housing, and reviewed multiple high-level state appointments and contracts.
5. NH lawmakers reject plea from Ayotte, delay action on children's mental health coverage bill (wmur.com) — A key children’s mental health coverage bill is on hold at the State House, despite Gov. Kelly Ayotte urging immediate action, and Merrimack Rep. Julie Miles publicly backing tougher requirements on insurers. Lawmakers instead voted to keep studying the proposal, frustrating advocates who warn that delaying decisions on coverage for critical services could harm New Hampshire families.
