Drugs In Hotel Room Lead To Charge: Merrimack Police

James Canney was arrested after a local hotel reported finding drugs and paraphernalia inside one of its rooms.

MERRIMACK, NH — If you’re going to allegedly do drugs inside of your hotel room – and you have a string of prior convictions and arrests – don’t forget to clean up after yourself. Merrimack Police arrested a Raymond man last month on charges after a local hotel reportedly found items in a room and called the cops. The man – James Canney, 56, of Freetown Road in Raymond – was arrested on Feb. 19, 2018, on a single felony counts of possession of a narcotic drug-heroin/fentanyl.

According to police, back on Jan. 23, the management of the Holiday Inn called police after allegedly finding drugs and paraphernalia inside one of the rooms. After police investigated the case, they reportedly determined that Canney had rented and occupied the room.

Canney was arrested about a month later on a warrant. He was processed and released on personal recognizance bail. Canney is due in Hillsborough County Superior Court-South on March 8.

According to posts on Patch, Canney was arrested last month in Manchester after a SWAT team raided a home in the Queen City and arrested him on a warrant. He was also arrested on a habitual offender charge after a drug raid in Manchester in December 2016 – after a SWAT team reportedly found him in a closet.

In 2006, according to the Boston Globe, Canney reportedly snitched on his cocaine dealer – the son of an Essex County Sheriff – reportedly ordering an eight ball of the drug from him with marked bills as part of a sting operation. He was arrested in March of that year.

Back in May 2002, Canney was arrested in Tennessee on a fugitive from justice charge for parole violations after leaving the state without consent, Seacoast online noted at the time. He was convicted in June 1996, in that state on aggravated armed robbery charges. He was sentenced to two 10 year sentences but was paroled in 2000.
