Freezer Fire Contained in Merrimack
Fire and rescue teams were sent to Shaw's Supermarket on Daniel Webster Highway on Monday.
Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams were sent to a fire at the Shaw’s Supermarket on Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack yesterday morning, according to a statement from Fire Marshal John Manuele.
At just before 2 a.m. on July 20, 2015, a fire was reported in the building. Merrimack Engines 1, 2 and 4, Ambulance 1, Fire Chief Currier, Assistant Chief Borneman and Manuele all responded. Merrimack
Engine 1 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing from the exterior. Shaw’s employees confirmed the building was evacuated and directed the crews to a fire in the area of the frozen food aisles.

Upon entry the crews saw “a heavy smoke condition in the store and found fire burning up the front of a frozen food display case,” according to the report. Engine 1’s crew, under the command of Capt. Jason Marsalla, attacked the fire and they were able to quickly extinguish it before it spread to the rest of the building.
The fire was declared under control at 2:21 a.m. according to Manuele, after “a lengthy overhaul was conducted to clear the store of burned materials and smoke.“ Damage was contained to several frozen food display cases and some store displays.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be due to an electrical malfunction in the display case, he noted. No firefighters were injured. Assistance was received from the Merrimack Police and a Nashua Engine covered Merrimack Station 1.
