Merrimack Fire and Rescue responded to multiple major emergency calls on Aug. 2, 2015, according to Fire Marshal John Manuele.

The first call came in at 12:46 p.m. with a dispatch for Merrimack Engine 1, under the command of Capt. Matt Duke, to respond to Manchester for mutual aide due to a three-alarm building fire.

At 2:19 p.m., they were dispatched to the trails in the area of Mast Road near the railroad tracks for a serious OHRV accident. Engine 2 under the command of Lt. Dan Newman arrived on Mast Road and was directed to the scene, which was approximately half mile along the trails, by officers of the Merrimack Police Department. Upon arriving on scene they found an overturned four-wheeler ATV with two riders, a seriously injured teenage male and a slightly injured female.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet and the male had suffered head, chest and facial injuries, according to Manuele. Due to the extent of the injuries a trauma team was activated at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. The patient was stabilized and transported to the hospital. The patient was later transferred to Boston. One of Engine 2’s firefighters was assigned to drive the ambulance so both ambulance personnel could attend to the patient.

At 3:19 p.m., a call was placed to Station 1 from a home on Dena Avenue. The homeowner stated he had just come home from an errand and found his house full of smoke from an extinguished fire in his garage.

Upon arriving at the scene Engine 2’s crew found a large area of the rear of the garage with fire damage to the walls, ceiling and contents. Lt. Newman requested mutual aid be dispatched, and requested that Fire Chief Currier and Manuele respond to the scene.

“The fire had burned in an area that had caused a water line to melt and mostly extinguish the fire,” he noted.

Engine 2’s crew, assisted by Ambulance 1 which had returned to town fully extinguished several hot spots and then conducted an extensive overhaul and ventilation of the home.

Damage was contained to the garage with smoke damage throughout the home. There were no injuries reported. All personnel were clear of the scene at 5:16 p.m.
