Merrimack Man Charged with Kidnapping

Police: James High held without bail after threatening woman with a gun; it is his second arrest in five weeks.

A local man was arrested last week after allegedly kidnapping and threatening a local woman with a gun, according to police.

James High, 49, of Brookfield Drive in Merrimack, was arrested on April 21, 2015, and charged with kidnapping, two counts of criminal restraint, violation of a protective order, and conduct after an accident.

At around 10 p.m. on April 21, Merrimack Police received a report of a potential violation of a protective order that occurred earlier in the evening.

The victim, a woman, alleged that while she was walking, she was taken against her will be High, who she had an active protective order against.

“It was alleged that High forcefully placed her in his truck and took her to his residence in Merrimack,” according to Sgt. Ted Dillon of the Merrimack Police Department. “She alleges once there he continued to hold her against her will and even used a firearm to keep her from leaving the residence. The victim was able to escape from a window and fled the scene.”

After High reportedly learned that she had escaped, he left the area in his truck and allegedly hit a mailbox while fleeing the scene. Police found him later, at home, and he was arrested and charged. High was held without bail and arraigned on April 22.

Back on March 9, according to a post on Merrimack Patch, High allegedly was involved in a threat and trespassing incident. Back in 2011, he was arrested for a driving charge after a previous drunk driving arrest, according to Patch.
