U.S. Soldier Charged in Killing of Virginia Officer from Merrimack: UPDATE
Ashley Guindon was shot, killed on her first day on the job, police said. She graduated from MHS in 2005, was also a veteran.

WOODBRIDGE, VA - A Virginia police officer with ties to Merrimack has passed away after being shot and killed in the line of duty, police said.
Ashley Guindon sustained fatal injuries while responding to a domestic violence call Saturday night in Prince William County. Two other officers were shot and injured during the incident.
At a press conference on Sunday, authorities announced that the accused, 32-year-old Ronald Hamilton, an Army staff sergeant, is charged with capital murder of a police officer. Additionally, he is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of malicious wounding of a police officer and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Hamilton also allegedly shot and killed his wife before officers arrived at the scene to respond to the domestic call.

In posts on Facebook and Twitter on Friday, the team welcomed Guindon and other officers to the department, with the note, “Be safe!” added at the end. The department also announced her passing last night on Twitter.
“We ask for thoughts and prayers,” the post stated.
According to her online profile, Guindon graduated Merrimack High School in 2005. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach and also received a master’s degree in forensics. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and came from a family of law enforcement.
