Teen Killed in Peterborough Accused of Posing as an FBI Agent

AG: Lane Lesko died of a gunshot wound at officer-involved shooting June 21; was suspected of theft in NH, Maine; crimes in Michigan, Ohio.

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has released the name and cause of death of a man yesterday who died during an officer-involved shooting in Peterborough, according to a report.

Lane Lesko, 19, of Michigan, is the name of the deceased male, the cause of death was a single gunshot wound, and it has been deemed a homicide, according to the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office. The incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. on Route 136 following what police called a brief pursuit.

Jeffery A. Strelzin, a senior Assistant Attorney General, the department’s homicide unit said in a statement, “The circumstances that led to Mr. Lesko’s death are still under investigation.”

According to WMUR-TV, Lesko was camping in Cambridge at the Umbagog Lake State Park near the Canadian border when he went missing on Sunday. Officials stated that they thought Lesko may have allegedly been involved in thefts in the area and that a canoe that was missing was found upside down in the lake. MLive.com reported that authorities in Maine were also looking for Lesko, who was last seen at the Magalloway Plantation.

Previously, Lesko allegedly stole a Dodge Charger from a dealership in Michigan, crashed it in Ohio, and posed as an FBI agent in May 2015. While out on bail, he was suspected of breaking into a home in Ann Arbor, according to reports. Lesko pled guilty in January to unlawfully driving away a vehicle, first degree home invasion, lying to a police officer and false pretenses, but his sentencing was delayed.
