2-Alarm House Fire Extinguished In Nashua

Nashua firefighters battled a fire at a two-family home on Arlington Street Saturday that went to two alarms.

NASHUA, NH — Nashua fire prevention is investigating the cause of a fire at an Arlington Street two-family home that took many hours to put out and overhaul. Deputy Fire Chief Steve Buxton said teams were sent to the home just after noon for a report of a fire. When they arrived, firefighters found "heavy smoke" showing from a porch on the second floor.

"Upon exiting the vehicle, they received a report someone may still be inside the second-floor apartment," Buxton said. "Upon arrival, Engine 4’s crew advanced a hose line into the building and located a fire on the second-floor porch extending into the attic area. Engine One arrived on scene and conducted a primary search of the building, which proved negative (no one inside)."

Other teams arrived to assist and a second alarm was sounded as the fire continued to extend into the attic due to "the construction of the building, causing conditions to deteriorate," he said.

Eventually, the fire was brought under control. Fire detectors in the home were working, Buxton said.

Firefighters from Hollis, Londonderry, Manchester, and Tyngsborough and Dracut, Massachusetts, offered mutual aid coverage to Nashua stations during the fire.
