Man Bought Precious Coins with Bad Checks

Police say John Brady stopped payment on checks used to purchase gold and silver coins from four different sellers.

John Brady of 148 Massabesic St., Manchester, was charged on a warrant Christmas Day with theft by deception in connection with an incident in June in which he allegedly stopped payment on four checks used to buy precious coins at a Nashua coin show.

It was reported to Nashua Police that Brady used personal checks to purchase gold and silver coins from four different vendors at a coin show in Nashua on June 17. After completing the transactions, Brady put a "stop payment" on each of the checks. Brady was charged Tuesday with one count of Theft By Deception, Consolidated, a class A felony.

A Class A felony is punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment in New Hampshire State Prison, exclusive of fines. Brady was booked and released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail. He has an arraignment scheduled for January 16, 2013 in the 9th Circuit Nashua District Court Division.
