Man Charged With New Crime While Already in Custody

Eric Potvin was in custody on an unrelated charge when he allegedly damaged a sprinkler head inside his holding cell.

A Bedford man was charged with disrupting the sprinkler system at the Nashua Police station while in custody on a separate charge.

Eric Potvin, 26, of Hardy Road, Bedford, was charged Dec. 8 with interfering with fire apparatus, a class B felony.

Police said Potvin had been arrested by Nashua Police at about 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 8 on an outstanding bench warrant for non-appearance in Derry District Court.

While in a holding cell in Nashua, Potvin allegedly tampered with a sprinkler head, causing the sprinkler system to be shut down for repair.

The class B felony is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, exclusive of fines. Potvin was being held on a $5,000 cash bail for the bench warrant and was scheduled to be arraigned on the Interfering with Fire Apparatus offense in the Nashua District Division Court
