NASHUA, NH — A Nashua man was arrested on a felony charge on Sunday accused of firing a handgun during a road rage incident.

Police were sent to West Hollis Street around 7:15 p.m. on a shots fired call due to a road rage incident. The caller, Jacob Finley, 25, of Hanover Street in Nashua, told police he was a passenger in his brother’s sedan when he shot at another vehicle to protect himself, according to an affidavit. He told a detective that the other vehicle, an SUV, “swerved at him.”

At the same time, another man from Nashua called 911 to report being shot at. That man, who had a woman as a passenger in his vehicle, accused the car of swerving at him, the report said.

During a post-arrest interview, Finley said he and the other driver began arguing after the other driver cut them off on East Hollis Street, according to an affidavit. The argument continued onto West Hollis Street.

“Jacob stated that he feared for his life so he fired a single shot from the passenger seat of his brother’s moving vehicle into the other vehicle to stop it,” the detective wrote. “Jacob admitted that they could have called the police or turned off of West Hollis Street before the situation escalated.”

Finley’s brother told police they were “concerned they may crash as a result of being swerved at,” the report stated.

In an interview later, the other driver accused Finley of yelling at him while they were driving in the same direction. The other driver said he “swerved only once — to avoid an animal in the roadway when Jacob fired a round into his vehicle that struck his seat.”

A single bullet shell was recovered by police in the area of West Hollis and Palm streets, according to police. The handgun, a Glock 43, was recovered from the vehicle later.

Finley was held on $500 cash bail and arraigned in Hillsborough County Superior Court South on Monday. He is due back in court for a dispositional conference on Dec. 21.

Finley is no stranger to the police.

Back in 2017, he was arrested after being accused of threatening another person with a pair of scissors over a parking space in the city. He was indicted on a single felony charge later.
