Nashua Woman Who Died in Apartment Fire Mourned

Friends and family are mourning the death of Maria Barriga-Consoni, who died Monday in a fire at an apartment building on Girouard Avenue.

The fire started early Monday morning in an outdoor porch, investigators said. Five more occupants of the building were hurt—as were two firefighters. All were expected to survive.

Firefighters tried to reach Barriga-Consoni, who was trapped on the second floor, but the flames were too intense, investigators said. Two occupants of the building jumped from the second floor to safety.

Barriga-Consoni was born in Cali, Columbia. The day before the fire, she posted pictures of herself hanging out at Agave Azul and then biking around the city. Family members were devastated when her death was confirmed.

Investigators ruled the fire was accidental.
