Shots Fired Call Leads To Charges Against Nashua, Hudson Men

NASHUA, NH — Nashua police arrested two men during the Memorial Day weekend on numerous felony charges after a shooting Saturday on Marshall Street.

Police were sent to the Marshall Street Apartments around 5:30 p.m. for a shots fired call. When they arrived, officers learned a large group of people were congregating in the parking lot of the apartment building and engaged in a disturbance. At one point during the incident, one man began firing a handgun while another brandished a machete, according to Lt. Patrick Hannon of the department's criminal investigation division.

Detectives assigned to the case furthered the investigation and accused Julio Santiago-Hernandez, 37, of West Hollis Street in Nashua, as a suspect in the shooting.

"Julio Santiago-Hernandez was identified as the individual responsible for discharging a firearm at least four times in the direction of an occupied motor vehicle," Hannon said. "Additionally, Julio Santiago-Hernandez was responsible for discharging the firearm several more times in the public parking lot of the Marshall Street Apartments. The investigation determined that the firearm was discharged a total of 13 times."

Julio Santiago-Hernandez was arrested May 24 and charged with four counts of attempted first-degree assault with a firearm, falsifying physical evidence, and reckless conduct-deadly weapon, all felonies. He was held on preventative detention bail pending an arraignment and faces 42 years in prison plus fines.

Hannon said no one was injured during the incident and all involved "were familiar with one another."

Later in the investigation, Adam Santiago-Hernandez, 34, of Dana Dive in Hudson, a felon with a previous first-degree assault conviction in Hillsborough County Superior Court South, became a suspect in the case. Detectives accused him of being the man with the machete, Hannon said.

"While in possession of the machete, Adam Santiago-Hernandez threatened an individual that was inside the vehicle and damaged the vehicle," he said. "It was also alleged that an assault took place during this incident."

Adam Santiago-Hernandez was arrested May 25 on convicted felons and criminal threatening with a deadly weapon charges, both felonies, as well as criminal mischief, and simple assault charges, both misdemeanors. He faces 16 years in prison and was held without bail.
