Winter Dangers: 2 From Nashua Killed in Less Than a Week

A Nashua resident died of carbon monoxide poisoning; another man died in an accidental fire.

NASHUA, NH — Two people from Nashua were killed last week in winter weather-related incidents.

On Jan. 3, a 45-year-old Nashua resident died of carbon monoxide poisoning at his home on Valley Road.

On Jan. 7, Donald Gross, Nashua’s former police chief, was killed in a brush fire at his home in Andover. Authorities said the cause of death was smoke inhalation; the fire was exacerbated by a chemical accelerant.

Local authorities issued these warnings:

“The State of New Hampshire and the City of Nashua wish to remind everyone to install carbon monoxide detectors in any home or building where there is a combustion heating appliance or attached motor vehicle garage, and to maintain the detectors and batteries in good working order...

“State Fire Marshal William Degnan wants to remind everyone that gasoline, kerosene, or other flammable liquids should never be used to start a brush fire. Do not allow small children to participate or stand nearby when lighting a brush fire. Stay with and monitor outdoor fires until they are completely out.”
