The Jaffrey Civic Center would like to invite you to join us in the upcoming Arts and Crafts Fair on the front lawn.  The craft fair will take place on Saturday September 5th from 10am to 3pm.  In addition to arts and crafts, we will have live music with the Cloutiers and fun activities with Hannah Banana. Bring the entire family to this fun local event.

In these classes, you will learn how to paint in watercolors using different techniques such as washes, wet in wet, and how to paint the traditional “transparent” technique involving the overlapping of thin, transparent color washes which rely on the white of the paper for their luminosity. We will learn how to create “atmospheric” effects and render textures.
We will be painting from a variety of subjects: real models (flowers and leaves, branches, apples and other fruit) and sometimes photographs (lakes and sailing boats, birds, pets). There will be many demonstrations and plenty of one on one support. Bring your materials (list is provided) and snacks or lunch to enjoy this fall activity. All levels are welcome.

The Craftworkers’ Guild Harvest Craft Shop

The Craftworkers’ Guild is proud to open its 101st season with the return of our annual Harvest Craft Shop, open from Thursday, September 17th through Monday, October 12th. Join us at the historic Kendall House, located behind the Bedford Library, Thursday through Sunday each week, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This year’s Harvest Shop features the work of nearly 50 local Guild member artisans and craftspeople, showcasing a rich variety of handmade goods — from timeless New England traditions to fresh, modern designs.
“As we open this year’s Harvest Shop, we’re thrilled to highlight what lies at the very core of our mission: work that is handmade, local and deeply heartfelt,” says Carol Davis, President of The Craftworkers’ Guild. “Every piece in the shop tells a story of dedicated local artistry, offering our community a personal connection to the craft that simply can’t be replicated.”
Shoppers will find a curated selection of locally made, juried crafts, with something for everyone — from stocking stuffers to large art pieces, including seasonal décor, photography, fine art and prints, cards, woodworking, textiles, pottery, fiber arts, sewn and knitted items, candles, jewelry, glass, and more. Many items are one-of-a-kind, perfect for gifts or treating yourself.
Proceeds help support the Guild’s ongoing arts education initiatives in the community, continuing our mission to inspire creativity for the next generation of artists and makers.

Saturday, October 3 from 10 – 12 pm
October is breast cancer awareness month! This Food for Life class looks at the research about breast cancer prevention and survival from breast cancer for those who have completed treatment. Presented by a medical doctor, both men and women are welcome to attend this practical class.
Dr Neal Barnard, MD, of the non-profit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, will highlight the findings from a major research study in a video lecture. Then the physician instructor, Dr Nora E. Hanke, will demonstrate preparation of dishes that can help prevent breast cancer or optimize survival. The class also includes discussion of the research presented and sampling of the dishes made in class, with attendees being given written resources to take home, including the recipes.
Dr Hanke’s previous Food for Life attendees have commented, “It is totally worth it!”; “Very well done and you get dinner/lunch.”
The fee is $30 per person. Please register by the Thursday before class to ensure your place.
