Portsmouth teen arrested after party; New Castle man arrested on assault charges; and Newmarket felon arrested on drug, weapon charges.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — A 16-year-old was arrested on a facilitating a drug or underage alcohol house party at 1 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2020, after an incident on Pearson Street.

Aaron S. Hill, 40, of Elm Street in Newmarket, was arrested at 4:34 p.m. on Jan. 11 on felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, criminal trespass, and two possession of controlled-narcotic drug charges. Police were sent to Lafayette Road for a report of a man passed out at a bus stop who wasn't wearing any shoes. The man was questioned and arrested on an electronic bench warrant.

Police took a report of a possible scam at 4:24 p.m. on Jan. 11 on Griffin Road involving "a tall, thin, black female" driving a silver Mustang who "caused a scene" at a business, pulling on the doors when the business was closed, trying to pick up a package. The package, it turned out, was a cell phone believed to be part of a scam.

A two-vehicle crash was reported in a parking lot on Parrott Avenue at 3:04 p.m. on Jan. 11.

At 2:13 p.m. on Jan. 11, police took a complaint about a panhandler on Market Street yelling at people. He was given a verbal warning for disorderly conduct.

A two-vehicle crash was reported at 12:57 p.m. on Jan. 11 at Court and Pleasant streets.

Police began a criminal threatening investigation at 11:46 a.m. on Jan. 11 involving a relative threatening to burn down a house the complainant owned in another state.

A "poor joke" by a man in a hospital led to a police investigation and the man's discharge delayed. At 11:36 a.m. on Jan. 11, police spoke to a complainant on Borthwick Avenue who stated the day before, a patient was overheard saying, "I'm going to shoot my wife when I get home." The caller stated they didn't know the wife's name or if the man had firearms. Police contacted the wife, who was aware of the comment, but stated they had no history of violence, he had no weapons, and she didn't fear for her safety. She said he was welcome back home when he is discharged. "Everyone agrees that this was a poor joke by (the man)," the report said. "He will be going home."

At 10:56 a.m. on Jan. 11, police were sent to Weald Road to remove an AR-15 rifle owned by a man who was not in the state but going through a divorce. Police agreed to take control of the firearm until the owner could retrieve it.

Patrick H. Hess, 58, of Portsmouth Avenue in New Castle, was arrested at 8:38 a.m. on Jan. 11 on two simple assault and possession of marijuana charges. He was arrested after police were sent to a Lafayette Road business for a report of a man with a trespass order. Hess also had a non-extraditable warrant out of Pennsylvania on a robbery charge, according to police.
