Interviewed on ABC, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he supports waterboarding as a form of interrogation, because it’s “peanuts compared to what they’re doing to us.”

War – even a savage war of terror – is nothing new. Western societies have experienced it before – and have certainly inflicted no shortage of it on the people of the Middle East.

In times of crisis, Americans willingly abandon sacred constitutional protections, and basic rules of decency, in order to feel safe and secure. What they receive instead is a more powerful and dangerous government.
