NHTP's Intelligent Theatre Festival Presents The Square

The Square is a new script by Boston playwright Amy Merrill, about the difficulties of veterans adjusting to civilian life after serving.

The Square is a new script by Boston playwright Amy Merrill, about the difficulties of veterans adjusting to civilian life after serving time in Iraq and Afghanistan. An Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music, Ms. Merrill teaches a course on war writing. Her first play, The TV War, was about a Vietnam vet and Agent Orange. It was produced in the Boston area at the same time as the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial was being dedicated in Washington. The Square includes some of the same themes as her earlier play – the challenge of transitioning home and the effects of war on marriage – but also focuses on an event the veteran witnessed at Nisour Square just before he returned home. Directed by CJ Lewis, The Square’s cast will include Jonathan Rockwood Hoar, artistic director of Veterans in Performing Arts.

The reading will be held at 7pm on Friday, June 12th at the Portsmouth Museum of Art at 909 Islington Street. Call (603)431-6644 ext. 5 or email reservations@nhtheatreproject.org for reservations. $10 General Admission.
