Orchestra 'Gets Cozy' on Sept. 11 at Kittery Dance Hall

The Inextinguishable Brass quintet brings listeners on a journey through time, from Bach to Bernstein.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra's "Get Cozy with the PSO" chamber music series kicks off Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 with a performance by the Inextinguishable Brass quintet at the Kittery Dance Hall. The performance starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door, according to a press statement.

The Seacoast based Inextinguishable Brass is a dynamic quintet comprised of Adam Gallant and Greg Bechtold on trumpet; Jennifer Larson on horn; Claude Fried on trombone; and Ben Stadelmann on tuba. Their repertoire consists of standard quintet literature from the Renaissance, Romantic, and Contemporary periods as well as lighter transcriptions of jazz and popular works. The Inextinguishable Brass has also commissioned new works from composers Rob Gerry and John-Michael Albert. The group was founded at the University of New Hampshire in the fall of 2008 by Adam Gallant and the name comes from Danish composer Carl Nielsen's 4th Symphony.

The program on Sept. 11 will include Revecy venir du Printans by Claude Le Jeune and edited by Irving Rosenthal; Canzona, which based on a French Theme by Samuel Scheidt and was edited by the Empire Brass Quintet; Contrapunctus Ifrom Art of the Fugue by J.S. Bach and arranged by Robert King; Quintet No. 2 by Victor Ewald; Colchester Fantasy by Eric Ewazen; and selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein and arranged by Jack Gale.
