Photographing Portsmouth
Check out the best Seacoast Contest to display your photography skills

There is nothing better than looking up during the evening and seeing the sky on fire as the sun sets. The colors are majestic and the surrounding scenery is lit up all around you. Now of course you have to take a picture of it, put it on Instagram, hashtag it with “no-filter” and wait for all your friends to double-tap the photo to show you they appreciate what you’ve done.
It’s a rewarding experience when you take a great photo, and share it with the people you know. But what about sharing something like that with many people…who you don’t know…and maybe even receive a small prize for it? Now that sounds even better!
PortsmouthNH.com has created an outlet exactly for this type of photographic scenario. They run a contest which encourages participants to take pictures during each season, ultimately submitting each photo by the end of that season, in hopes of becoming the winner. The winners of the contest get a chance to show off their work, and also receive a gift certificate to a local Portsmouth restaurant. This is a great chance for you to show everyone just how talented you are, and it’s also an awesome way for different parts of Portsmouth to be shown in a creative and inspiring way.

This contest isn’t restricted to just professional photographers; anyone is allowed to join in on the fun. The following are a few of the rules (see the complete list of rules) to give you the “can do” attitude:
- The winning images are selected on the basis of creativity, composition, subject matter and technical merit.
- Contest deadlines are more or less the end of each season. The date will appear on the home page.
- NEW – Limit 3 entries per person.
- To be eligible to win, images must have been taken within the Seacoast region.
- To win, images do not have to have a seasonal theme. That is, while the contests are seasonal, fall foliage photos will not necessarily win the fall contest.
Best of luck to you as you embark on this photogenic journey across the seacoast!
