Portsmouth Police: Hampton Man's Death Believed to Be a Heroin Overdose

Detectives are looking for any information they can find about Shawn Simons, 32, who passed away on Friday.

A local man who passed away on Friday night in Portsmouth is believed to have died of a heroin overdose, according to police.

Shawn Michael Simons, 32, of Hampton, was pronounced dead on May 1, at the Wren’s Next Village Inn on Lafayette Road.

According to a report, Portsmouth Police and Fire and Rescue teams were sent to the Inn around 8:30 p.m. for a report of an unconscious man. Ultimately, efforts to revive the man, later identified as Simons, were unsuccessful, according to Capt. Mike Schwartz.

“The Portsmouth Police Department and the N.H. Office of the Medical Examiner are investigating this as a heroin overdose,” he said in a statement.

According to his online profile, Simons was from Hampton and had been living in Fort Myers, FL. He attended Winnacunnet High School through 2000. Simons was arrested last year in Hampton on a heroin charge, according to Seacoastonline.com.
