Bank ATM Skimmer Found in Salem

Salem Police report this skimming device was found at the Bank of America ATM at the Speedway gas station on North Broadway on Sunday.

SALEM, NH - Police are asking anyone who sees any suspicious objects or activity in or around ATM machines to call police immediately after a skimming device was found at an ATM last weekend.

A technician found the skimming device, according to Capt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police, on March 6, 2016, at the Bank of America ATM on North Broadway, at the Speedway gas station location.

Officers were sent to the call and spoke with the technician who was servicing the machine. He stated that the skimming device “perfectly matched the color scheme of the ATM” and also had a camera that captured the PIN pad.

“It is impossible to determine how long that device had been affixed to the machine or how many accounts may have been compromised,” Dolan noted.

The department is urging anyone who may have used this ATM to monitor their accounts and contact their local bank if they see any abnormal activity.

There are no known suspects at this time but as technology advances with these types of devices, they are becoming more difficult to detect, according to Dolan.

“The Salem Police Department encourages anyone who observes suspicious objects in or around ATMs, or like machines, to contact the local police department,” he said.
