Chase Through Windham, Salem Leads to Crash, Arrest

UPDATED: Cops: William Pope threatened a family member with a knife in Windham and then, crashed his SUV on North Main Street in Salem.

SALEM, NH - A local man was arrested on Saturday night after an alleged domestic incident in one community and a car chase through another, according to press reports online.

William Pope, 20, was arrested on Feb. 20, 2016, after allegedly crashing into a utility pole on Main Street in Salem and fleeing the area on foot.

According to the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune, Pope allegedly threatened a family member in Windham and then fled the scene.

Salem Police were tipped off to the incident and reportedly spotted Pope at the Mall at Rockingham Park. He allegedly saw police and fled. During the course of the chase, according to WMUR-TV, Pope drove around town and on I-93 at excessively high rates of speed, so they called off the pursuit.

Pope allegedly later crashed his vehicle on Main Street after police began chasing him again at the intersection with School Street. The vehicle later crashed at Kimball Avenue and North Main Street, according to Capt. Joel Dolan.

After the crash, Pope reportedly fled the scene on foot. Police later found him after calling in K-9 units and tracking his cellphone location, according to NH1 News. State troopers also assisted at the scene, according to reports.
