Local Women ignored by local police, stolen pet still with MA Leonberger breeder from Harwich receives suspension from AKC. Whole story..
This story is not unique John Upton has a similar story and others like Joshua Rockwood
Please bare with me as I tell my story and explain why I am trying to raise the funds to save Our Farm , a rescue and haven for old ,unwanted and neglected animals. I am desperate to save my animals, who were cruelly and unjustly taken from me, and honor the memory of my son, who is the inspiration for this rescue operation and my purpose for living. Here is the story of Our Farm. Our Farm is a project of love inspired by my Son Christopher, whose love for people and animals was boundless. He wanted to rescue animals, especially those who were unwanted, old or in poor health and give them a home where they would be loved and nurtured back to good health, and be loved unconditionally. We rescued animals (Dogs, cats, several horses in their late 20s, alpacas, ) it was a challenge because we didn’t charge owners anything whatsoever to care for their animals. (We often paid a small fee for the animals to help them out of their financial struggle. My son wanted to create a Facebook page so people to see their animals and be able to find them if they were ever able to take them back. We kept their original names to make it easy for the animals to transition back and the location public to make it easy for their first owners. Some of the animals were in rough shape when they arrived, but we worked with local vets to get them in a treatment plan to help get them back in good health. We also purchased a herding dog as a family pet. A Leonberger named Sampson. He was my son’s dog and they adored each other.. Both kindred spirits, with hearts of gold, full of love for everyone and every creature great and small. The ACO had received a noise complaint and began visiting the farm regularly at this point. She lives at the next driveway although across the street. My favorite guest were two horses that came the end of November. Their owner passed away and the heartbroken family wanted the to be loved until they passed. I have not formal training but even an ACO is required to have a GED. The ACO came and gave so suggestions and they were written down and exced the ACOs expectations A+ she said and commented on the fact you made every improvement she asked and she was satisfied with your compliance. We thought all was well. One day in October, Christopher wanted to make cookies to share with his neighbors. On his way to deliver the cookies to our neighbor, he suddenly collapsed and died from a symptomless heart condition known as idiopathic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Chris was 9 years old. Please see #cookies4Christopher on facebook. I struggled to make it through each day, he passed on a Friday so Fridays are particularly unbearable for me. Shortly after my son’s death, the ACO again contacted me and invited me to have my dogs boarded at her rescue free of charge during the wake and funeral. ACO Claire Kontos was seeming to be friendly and I accepted the offer help. Simultaneously, however she seemed to not understand that many of the animals I took in and had on the farm seeming poor shape because they arrived that way! And you were trying to help them get better. I continued to cooperate and told her you had vets regularly visiting the farm caring for the animals. The community had been very supportive of our farm , and in a show of appreciation I opened the farm up to the public an invited Chris’ classmates and friends to visit the animals. I was very happy and proud to show people this project of love my son started. People were very receptive and supportive and LOVED learning about our rescue animals. This gave me purpose and a reason to put one foot in front of the other; To get up and face another day without my son.
5 weeks after my son’s passing the breeder I got our dog from asked to “borrow” him for 24 hours to breed him. She said she knew it was a tough time but there was a female was ready to breed in the next two days. Mary Davidson’s (A recently suspended, as of January AKC Breeder of Merit for LEOS BY THE SEA) message “I have a girl in heat who is the perfect match for Sampson. She is in western mass and due to be bred in the next few days. I would need Sampson probably just for the day but he might need an overnight at the repro vet’s for maybe one night (only if they don’t succeed naturally). I have a dear friend, in Wellesley, I think I have told you about Peter and Cathy who have three of my leonbergers?? Well, Peter is retired now and loves to drive and do things will animals. So he could pick him up and bring him back to you. I know this might not be the best of times for you to have Sampson go, but at most it would be one night. This would happen in the next couple of days depending on the girl’s progesterone levels which are being tested today and tomorrow. I don’t know how you feel about another dog, you have so much on your hands. But I would be glad to give you a puppy from a Sampson breeding if it takes and that might help a little. If this isn’t a good time for a puppy , any other time, you just let me know. Can Peter bring you anything you need for the dogs or cats, like food or anything you might need. Some good Costco down near him and Cathy is quite the shopper!!! “ She expressed her sympathy and even suggested I consider taking a puppy if the breeding was a success. I trusted her and thought she was my friend, so I agreed. It was just after Christopher’s birthday in early December.
She failed to return my dog in a day and it became 2 days as promised and the 3rd day I contacted her to ask when was he coming back. It was then she revealed she never was going to return the dog; that she planned to keep him. I was reeling in shock and disbelief. I went to police in Massachusetts where she lives and filed charges. I was told the dog was no longer in her possession and had been moved to an undisclosed location in another state. I was told to be patient while police investigated. I was devastated, now not only grieving my son but now the loss of his beloved dog we shared. The MA police filed Felony charges against Mary Davidson the breeder.
Shortly after that , a few days before Christmas while the vet was at our farm doing well check on some of the animals, I got a call from the Sandown PD informing me they were filing cruelty charges and later told me I would have to either surrender my 37 animals willingly or else they’d be taken by force and held by the SPCA and I would have to pay for their care, $25 a day per animal, for the 30 days until my hearing , even if I the charges were dismissed! That’s $36,000 per month!!! I had no choice but to surrender my animals, all of whom were in excellent health, under the care of my vet except for the two new older horses who came to me very thin and were gaining weight but had only been on the farm a few weeks. I have documentation for all of the animals, including vet visits, as well as many witnesses and animal care professionals who had visited my farm and have testified to the good condition of my animals. These charges came just after Mary Davidson, the women that stole my dog received her summons to court. Mary was proud to share her long term relationship with ACO on Facebook. She refers to her as the Dog Officer.
I could not understand why this was happening but then found out that the breeder and the ACO had been working together for quite sometime. They actually planned the ruse to take my dog Sampson. I do not understand why a paid town official would do such a thing. I don’t understand a police Cheif who would stand behind this ACO who has a reputation and history of overreaching her position of authority, poor animal assessment skills and rushing to judge.
The charges were dropped in MA because I live in NH and police in my NH town are unwilling help. I don’t understand why MA PD has the same evidence that was given to NH but they are not willing to pursue the case???
I am horrified that this can happen to people in this day and age. That one corrupt official can orchestrate the illegal confiscation of innocent animals, including my son’s dog who was in perfect health (I have a health certificate to prove it) ; all these poor animals, who were well loved and cared for , displaced from their home on Our Farm TWO DAYS before Christmas. WHY???!!!! I want answers! I know I will be vindicated and the charges will be dropped but that will not save my animals.
There are 2 animals, I refused to surrender , a horse and a goat. I have to raise $1400 for their “room & board” at the SPCA or I will lose them too. Please help me save my animals and stop this insanity!
I am raising money to pay fees for animals unlawfully taken and raise funds to fight back against the theft of family pets and pay for a lawyer to clear my name for a civil suit. They have destroyed my reputation, stolen my pets. They have broken laws and even those we “should’ be able to look up to for help have behaved at best “unethically and immorally”. My plan is to return every penny donated. Please help us. Share the storyhttp://
