SALEM, NH — A woman from Chester was arrested after a chase through Salem and Derry Monday that led to her vehicle crashing into a utility pole while police accused her of being passed out at the wheel. At 10:30 p.m., police were tipped off about a possible stolen vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, that might be on Route 28. Officers caught up to the vehicle, said Deputy Chief Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department, on the northbound side of the road, confirmed it was stolen, and attempted to stop it.

"The operator refused to pull over and continued northbound on Route 28," Dolan said, "while crossing the double yellow line and entering the opposite lane on travel several times."

The vehicle continued to drive into Derry, reportedly slowed, crashed into a utility pole, and stopped.

"The pole was minimally damaged," Dolan said.

Police found the driver, Cindy Chase, 54, of Chester, "unconscious behind the wheel" and EMTs removed her from the vehicle and treated her, he stated.
