Town Beaches Declared Swimmable

Testing this month shows full compliance with DES regulations.

Testing of Salem's town beaches this month yielded full compliance with guidelines established by the N.H. Department of Environmental Services (DES) for swimmable waters.

The town announced that on June 7 water samples from association and public beaches were collected and submitted for microbiological analysis to the DES Laboratory in Concord.

The samples were analyzed for E. coli, the indicator organism utilized to determine safe swimming conditions, the town said. The state allows up to 88 colonies of E. coli per sample in freshwater beaches. Two samples were collected from each beach in accordance with DES procedures.
