Severe Storms Target NJ Thursday: Latest Forecast

Isolated thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening will give way to sunny skies and lower humidity, forecasters say.

NEW JERSEY — Thursday could see a round of severe weather, capping four days of unsettled skies, according to the latest forecast.

Some of the state is already experiencing spotty showers as of Thursday morning, the National Weather Service said.

Then, in the afternoon and evening, isolated severe thunderstorms may pop up, the National Weather Service said. But some parts of the state might stay completely dry.

"It looks like most areas north and northwest of Philly will struggle to get any additional precip after daybreak today, with many models now showing a dry day in this region and storms confined mainly south/southeast of Philly," National Weather Service forecasters said.

Like with previous storms this week, flash flooding risks will be present.

The good news is that these storms will usher in a much more pleasant weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are expected to be sunny with seasonable temps and comfortable levels of humidity, according to forecasters.

But the risk of showers will return Tuesday into Wednesday, according to the forecast, and the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center is anticipating a "moderate risk" of excessive heat in the Northeast, where temperatures could exceed triple digits.

North Jersey

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 66. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86. North wind around 7 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 89. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 91.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71.

Central Jersey

Thursday: Isolated showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 86. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 61. North wind around 5 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 85. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 87. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 90.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65.

South Jersey

Thursday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then scattered showers between 1pm and 2pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 84. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 62. West wind around 5 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. North wind around 5 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 86. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 87.
