More Storms In Store For NJ Through Thursday: Latest Forecast

NEW JERSEY — Get ready for lots of storms and rain, because threats of thunderstorms return Tuesday evening and aren't expected to dissipate until Thursday.

"There should be a lull in the shower activity for a while today," National Weather Service forecasters said Tuesday morning, noting that while the day will be cloudy there may even be some increase in sunshine this afternoon.

Then, showers and storms will kick in Tuesday night, with rain most likely in the overnight hours through pre-dawn Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Scattered showers and storms will be more widespread Wednesday and Thursday, forecasters say, with the main threat being heavy downpours at times.

"The most frequent and heaviest downpours will occur in portions of Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania where a general 1-2 inches of rain is anticipated, with local amounts up to 4 inches into Thursday," AccuWeather said in its storm forecast.

AccuWeather forecasters say that storms won't be as severe as they have been previously this season, but Thursday may seem some severe thunderstorm activity with damaging heavy winds and flash flooding.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see dry and sunny conditions returning. Lower humidity "will make conditions quite comfortable through the weekend," the National Weather Service said.
