NEW JERSEY — Parts of New Jersey could see some measurable snow early next week when a winter weather system moves across the state following a mild weekend, according to the National Weather Service's latest forecast.

A storm system expected to hit the Garden State late Monday into Tuesday could dump 7 to 12 inches of snow across some New Jersey counties, NWS forecasters said Saturday afternoon.

On Monday, forecasters said they're expecting a slower and stronger storm system to move into the state around 7 p.m. with a bulk of the snow falling Tuesday morning.

Based on the latest trends, snow will begin at Carbon, Monroe, and Sussex Monday evening, with a prolonged period of accumulating snow falling in those areas. Snow probabilities for the 24 hours ending at 7 p.m. Tuesday have a vast range of 1 inch to 13 inches.

Further south, mainly from I- 80 down to I-78, snowfall totals are predicted to be in the 4 to 6 inch range, but "confidence is lower that there will be a prolonged period of accumulating snow in those areas," National Weather Service officials said.
