On Wednesday, October 18th, the NJ Black Panther Party Commemoration Committee will observe the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Black Panther Party hosting a Teach-in and Discussion on the continuing impact of the life and legacy of legendary Latin American revolutionary Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara!

This engaging event is also being done to observe the 50th anniversary of Guevara’s death and the 51st anniversary of the launching of the Black Panther Party. Guevara was executed on October 9th, 1967 in Bolivia after being captured there. The Black Panther Party was launched on October 15th, 1966 in Oakland, California.

Guevara, whose legendary revolutionary efforts touched North, Central and South America and Africa, was an enormous inspiration and influence on revolutionaries all over the world during the epic post WWII AntiColonial Era and its NonAligned Movement. He is one of the most iconic figures associated with revolutionary social change of all time.

His ‘Socialism And Man,’ one of the most seminal treatises of its kind, continues to inspire activists all over the world. His books from His Motorcycle Diaries, to Venceremos-Che Guevara Speaks to his fateful Bolivian Diary are still among the most widely read books of their kind.

This forum will examine how Guevara’s work continues to influence contemporary activism.

Among the guest presenters are Atnos Smith who was in the Newark chapter of the Black Panther Party and Esperanza Martell of Pro Libertad and founder Casa Atabex Ase’.
