2 Storms Target NJ; First Round Expected Tuesday Night

NEW JERSEY — Tuesday is set to usher in the first of several rounds of storms expected to soak the Garden State throughout the week, according to the latest forecast.

While there is only a slight chance of showers is possible for the rest of the morning, and isolated showers and thunderstorms may hit north and west of the I-95 corridor through early to mid-afternoon all of that changes by evening, the National Weather Service said.

As we get later into the day, the risk for rain ramps up, according to the National Weather Service. This round is not likely to be severe, but excessive rainfall is possible for the extreme northwest corner of the Garden State.

"Shower and thunderstorm activity should continue to work its way from west to east through the evening and overnight hours, before tapering off early Wednesday," the National Weather Service said.

Another round of storms is possible Wednesday and more storms on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, and the whole week is likely to be hot and humid. But a greater threat is Friday into Saturday, where most of the state is at risk of showers and storms with heavy downpours, bringing the chance of flash flooding.

"It may take until Sunday before enough dry air mixes in from the Great Lakes to end or reduce the shower threat over the Ohio and Tennessee valleys and much of the Northeast," AccuWeather forecasters said.
